Very sure that it didn't do much for the people that the Realtor lured there to be part of the disaster. Interesting that the article was mostly about the Realtor and not much about the other people involved. Does raise the question of how much the Realtor weighed sense it sounds like she was the straw that broke the camels back.

Looks like the ledger board on the first floor came off causing a cascading effect to the rest of the structure. Also appears like the second floor is missing the ledger board and the rim joist is missing which would make sense.

Lost her Commission.
*if this happened after closing she'd be one of the 1st with "The Inspector should have caught that."

Any chance the realtor was obese, like about 500+ lbs.? Many decks aren't constructed to resist that kind of concentrated load. Forget about design, as very few DIY decks are truly designed in a competent manner.

Seems as though there have been several posts commenting on the size of the agent while ignoring the sizes of the other two people stand there WITH her.

(bold is mine)
"The collapse of the second-story deck was nearly simultaneous with the floor on the first-floor porch giving way as Frame stood there," reports the paper. "It left her no time to escape and avoid the avalanche of timber, metal, and pieces of hardware that showered upon her and two prospective buyers, according to police."

It is also possible that NO ONE was a plus size. Not sure why that came up even once?

"The collapse of the second-story deck was nearly simultaneous with the floor on the first-floor porch giving way" ... to me, that sounds like the first floor porch's floor was supporting the deck, and that it may have given way, taking the deck with it. If the first floor porch's floor was supporting the second floor deck above, the first floor porch's floor may have been overloaded BY THE DECK ABOVE.

Some of you guys sure do read a lot into things which are not there. :):(

Can only be determined and presumed that they are assuming a lot ...

I agree with Jerry, and will add:
Even if people that weigh 500 lbs each and are standing elbow to elbow, the deck should be safe.
