Gas water heaters located in garages need to be 18 inches off floor
Gas water heater is located in a raised area approximately one step 7 inches above the area where vehicles drive in. This raised area has a workbench washer dryer etc. Question is can the water heater be raised approx 11 inches adding the 7 inches previously mentioned which would total approx 18 inches above the vehicle slab and correctly meet the requirement. Asking because height is limited in this area

"Gas water heaters located in garages need to be 18 inches off floor "

That is partially correct as stated, the proper way to state that is that the ignition source must be 18" above the garage floor ... unless the water heater is one of the type which is not required to be raised up.

Let's say, for discussion's sake, that the ignition source is 6" above the bottom water heater ... with the water heater on a 7" raised area, the ignition source is thus 13" above the garage floor, that means the water heater only needs to be raised another 5" ... provided the water heater is not one of the type which is not required to be raised at all.
