Yes, but it does need to be correctly identified as non-grounded and the circuit needs its own neutral. I can't tell what the rest of the circuit is by the picture.

I think Vern misunderstood the wiring you described and the pic is ???.
There is no rule prohibiting using only one pole of a double pole breaker to power a 120 volt circuit.
You should try using an old fashioned camera with a flash. You will catch more defects with a flash, I guarantee it.

Thanks for tip on a flash. I'll try to remember that next time my camera breaks randomly.

I use an instamatic 110 with flash cube
But my Polaroid swinger is good when I want to see the picture now.
