I am looking for the specific years that GFCI's were required in British Columbia. I know they were required in the 1970's as some locations, 2006 in kitchens?, and then 2009 ARCI were required in new homes? I have called BC Safety Authority and they were no help and reading through the CSA Code I couldn't find start dates either.

I am looking for exterior, bathrooms, laundry, and kitchens. If someone knows the exact year they became code it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Paul,
I have a CSA publication called "Electrical Inspection Code for Existing Residential Occupancies". I bought it specifically for the chapter "Major revisions to the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, applicable to residential occupancies".

As per the publication re GFCI:
1975 CEC - outdoors below 8'
1986 CEC - washrooms & bathrooms
2006 CEC - within 1.5m all sinks, bathtubs, shower stalls. (Note it doesn't state kitchens specifically)

As per the publication re AFCI:
2002 CEC - sleeping facilities

As per the publication re TR:
2009 CEC - tamper resistant

There are many more references dating back to 1935.
