Anyone out there got info on how to decipher serial numbers for dates on GE air and furnace units? I don't run into many and most are old, but, it would be nice to be able to determine the correct age.
Thanks!

I use the carrier blue book. You can either get the software or the physical book. It has (I believe) all of the gas and oil furnaces and a/c units manufactured prior to 2003 and you can search the program by mfgr., model # or seer rating.

Most units newer than 2003 have the date on the label.

You can also usually find the date in the model and/or serial #'s.

The attached History of Names might be of some help. GE was bought by Trane in 1982

Here's a Furnace age decoder from TIJ, thank Mike O" for it, that you might find helpful.
