Is there a documented rule, code, etc...regarding a requirement for a light switch at either end of a typical residential bedroom-type hallway, approximately 15 foot hallway. Most often I see a switch at either end of a residential hallway, but not always. Thanks.

I don't think so.
There is a requirement for switches at each end of a stair case.

Correct.

There is a requirement for switches at each end of a stair case.

And at intermediate landings if there is a door or opening at the landing which allows one to enter or exit the stairway.

Jim,

I think you are right about 6 or some number of steps, but I don't have my code handy either.
