Waiting in bed for call from VA with appointment info with nero surgery.

Mid July I started having sciatica pain every morning that I could walk out in 30 to 40 minutes, I was told to take ibuprofen and it would go away in 6 to 10 weeks. Twelve weeks came and went then four more with chiropractor and no help. September 21st emergency operation to remove 7mm kidney stone, then four more weeks with stient and sciatic pain. Only good thing to this point is VA urology Dr. Is hot young blond! Was hoping the sciatic pain would go away when stient was removed but it only changed from starting at the hip to starting at base of spine. Now waiting to have blown disk repaired. Ah the golden years!

That's not the "golden" part? ;)

How could it get better than this :-(

I have digressed to watching Mike Holmes (only slightly better than Judge Judy) , I need to get fixed quickly. :help:

I refuse to look at it as though we are getting "older" ... we are simply "losing our youth". :)

Sorry to hear that Vern.

In my 60's, I'm not quite as peppy as I was in my youth in my 50's.....but today, a much younger client said he was too old to follow me into a crawlspace. Luckily, he couldn't see me smirk.

I had some sciatica issues several years ago, and I sympathize. It stinks when the mind is willing but the body can't follow.

In spite of the issues, remember pain tells you you are alive!

Every day above ground is a good day.
Every day you are vertical is better.
Every day you are not shot at is a wonderful day...just ask a vet

Or a grade school student ... college student ... movie goer ... shopping in the mall ... pumping gas ... even those attending the church of their choice ...

I just had an excellent diagnosis from my cardiologist. She said the condition of my heart was inconsistent with my lifestyle. Not to worry, she has a plan. ;-)

I guess as long as they can keep finding replacement parts I'll keep on ticking.

Trust me, the first 75 years were the easiest!

Hope your back works out well.

I am only as good as my orthopedic surgeon can make me.
Also, as I get older my vocabulary is changing. I don't use words like climb, run, hurry, jump etc. any more.

Hopefully I can make a few more years.

I had a the operation in 1980 and I've worked without pain to this day. The biggest thing is follow the doctors advice to the letter about how much you can lift and what you can do. I went from pain for years to I fell great every day. I'm not doing 89 pushups, bet I walk on roofs, climb in attics and slither through crawl spaces with the best of them.

Good luck

I've had 5 or 6 of those spinal shots. They helped me quite a bit. Take your time, and I hope that you feel better soon.

I don't want to sound like an infomecial but take a look at inversion. I'm 60 and just recently had pretty similar problems, woke up one morning and couldn't stand up straight- shooting pain at my tail bone that shot all the way down my right leg. I had to do the same thing, stretch it out just to be able to move. I saw an informercial and thought it was all just BS, until I started reading the reviews just on Amazon and said what the hell, I hurt bad- just try it. It took less than a week and my back pain is gone-completely. I have it sitting in a corner of my office and I get on 3-4 times a day for a 3-4 minutes a shot and that's all it take.

I just saw one on CL for about half price. It's the best $300 I've spent in a long time. All I can say is it worked for me

Thanks for the advice but I have had an inversion table for the last 4-5 years, it has worked in the past but not this time. Tried the shot in the base of the spine last Friday but that has not worked either, worse than ever now. Have appt. scheduled for Tuesday and suspect will end up with surgery this time. Bulge in the disk is very visible in the MRI so hope its an easy fix. This lying around all day sucks!

Up date ruptured disk;

Dr. Petty squinted through two fingers held apart thye width of a dime to show the size incision needed if the spine shot didn't work, shot didn't work. Refered to Dr. Cahill who held his fingers apart the size of a quarter to show the size incision that would be needed on Thursdays surgery. Thursday afternoon Dr. Cahill holds his fingers apart an inch and a half while seeing me in pre-op. Overnight stay in hospital and released at 6pm Friday. Saturday bandages off and 3 inch gash is stitched up like old potato sack with additional small hole halfway up my back. Back is sore but leg nerve pain is gone Yea!

Excellent news! :clap2:

So, I guess each doctor gets paid for 'added value' - larger incision - ??? :)
