Commander breaker in a Sylvania panel

A bit lost and looking for a new narrative or a correction.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS: You might even get the title "your the king mate" now and then. Certainly something to mull over with reverence.:confused:

Commander breaker, 200 amp main disconnect, in a Sylvania panel.
Both of which are vintage obsolete, Eaton making replace bolt on for certain panels, nevertheless, narratives?
Electric panel manufactures recommend only their products be installed, yada yada yada...

Zinsco / Sylvania's successor Challenger, I believe was known as Commander in Canada, Challenger was bought by Westinghouse, and in the early/mid nineties Eaton bought Westinghouse's electrical division & folded it into their Cutler-Hammer subsidiary with the exception of Challenger & the Westinghouse safety switch line which was sold to T&B, it later disappeared, as to what happened to any parts of the company in Canada, I dunno, but Eaton would as close to OEM as you can get for that obsolete equipment. In the US there is UL classified replacement breakers for use in specific loadcenters made by competitive companies, but there has to be paperwork to prove it. OEM breakers= UL listed, competitors breaker = UL classified, CSA, I assume has their own policy.


When Westinghouse bought Challenger, they had their breakers listed in place of breakers made by Challenger & then branded as Challenger, but they did continue to use Zinsco design breakers like the main breaker in the photo above although that one predates Challenger.

Great information.

Recommend a licensed electrician evaluate the main disconnect breaker in the first point of service or service diconnect. Commander breaker in a Sylvania panel.
Act upon any recommendations therein.
