What would you call those metal straps that appear to be holding the stones together? Note: "metal straps" is already taken.

"Ties"

Has that already been taken too? :)

I wouldn't call them "tie backs" because they don't 'tie anything back to anything else', they simply "tie" the stones together.

I like it. Thanks (from my wife, actually).

"Pin Straps""Pins" are kinda femmy for those, eh? :D
How about "Tie straps"?

"Anchor straps", sounds more massive. "Stone ties", more archaic.

"Stone anchors". That's my best offer, take it or leave it, John. :D

Thought I had something though not exactly what I thought I had, having to rummage through some unused folders.

Not exact but getting closer. "Cramp" anchor. Look at : page 7 / sheet 1.5

That same item can be found here - #402R:
- Stone Anchors (http://www.h-b.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=150)

I didn't post it because it was different than the flat-strap-with-rolled-pin-shaped-downturned-ends (for lack of a better descriptive term).

Anchors. They come in many shapes and sizes.

To be honest though I like "Doohickies".
Warm, charming and covers a wide variety of stuff.
Honey could you please pass me that Doohickey over there.
No not there honey, over there, next to the other Doohickey.
Dam..Right beside the whatchamacallit.
Gees Louise...do I have to do everything myself around here?

Cramps is the closest thing so far, but the description and drawing varies from what is shown in the original photo, but ... all things considered - "cramps" ... and few will have any idea what you are talking about ... 'oh, yeah, I get cramps too'. :)
