Not a done deal yet.
Actually, if you look at the odds, R&L may not happen.

Anyone remember Cam Allen?
I know serval inspectors in front of Ontario's provincial government but do not remember his name coming up.

An INACHI Ontario home inspector pre 2010 if I am not mistaken.

Hello Robert - you may be right that licensing may not happen in Ontario, but certainly some form of regulation within the industry is required to help key all home inspectors marching to the same tune. Let's face it home inspectors are largely sole proprietors and like to do their thing.

On the other side - consumers should expect protection from the unscrupulous inspectors that can and do exist. Sorry, but God I know a few......

On another note regarding Cam Allen. He has been around for a a long time, back in the days of the start of the "conception" of a national initiative in Canada. He has held many positions within the industry including prior affiliations and positions with NACHI and OAHI, and perhaps a few others I may have overlooked.

Cam as you note does a column for the "news" on a fairly regular basis; so he has lots of knowledge and certainly experience about the "ins and certainly the outs" of the home inspection world in north america.

I also know Cam as "bulldog" in character that is not afraid to call out what he sees as problems that exist in the industry. I also know him as "one of many friends" and certainly one that can help when help is needed.

Cam did not serve on the Ontario MCS Panel. But - YES, he has the ears and recognition to speak to people in high places, and is not afraid to lay the "cards on the table". From my knowledge he has invested lots of time and energy into the home inspection sector, and early organizational meeting groups with NACHI and raises many good points in his news pieces.

Likewise he has a history, that you can either accept, acknowledge or debate. But in my books - he enjoys taking on what many refuse to do, and that is to stand up and work towards harmonization and professionalizing the home inspection sector.

Thanks. I was hoping you would chime Claude seeing you have been an outstanding individual pushing forward in the direction you hold true for the industry.
Remarkable quality.
Hoping you are keeping well.

I have said all along, home inspection industry regulation are required in every province.
Everything is in place except will.
The governments dropped the ball on consumer protection and wanted associations to hammer out the details. I am happy before my day comes to retire I will see what I think and hope is real change for consumer protection.

Many scoffed at me but like yourself, I keep on the same path.

When I started with INACHI in 2010 I pushed for interprovincial association unification and Cam's name came up. Nick emailed me as well asking is Cam coming back to help?
Thanks for the association. Much appreciated.

I heard through a certain party Quebec will adopt Ontario's regulations.
Let us wait and see what happens.

Thanks again.
Much appreciated.

Home Inspector Licensing in Ontario announced as a proceeding ahead by the Minister announcement today. Expect Ontario home inspectors to be licensed by 2019.

Much thanks.
I will read part Part VIII in the morning.
Be happy to hear what Ray has to say as well.

I concur. Some form of regulations is required.
It's between, some form, and, of regulations, that must be hashed out.

Claude,

The Act reads as follows taken directly from - Printed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

Bill Prl58
(Chapter Pr65 Statutes of Ontario, 1994)
An Act respecting the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors

Repealed statute: A consolidated version of a statute as it read immediately before it was repealed. A statute can be repealed by a provision in the statute itself or by a provision in another statute. A repealed statute is not in force but may continue to apply in some situations. For example, transitional provisions may extend its application in certain circumstances or it may have application in relation to past events.

In other words it appears the new Act (pending) annuls OAHI.

Personally I am pleased to read OAHI has had the rug pulled out. Too many horror stories of incompetence, financial irregularities, conflicts, infighting, ego's...

Besides self regulation has never worked as far as home inspectors overseeing themselves even more so given what has transpired over the years in OAHI.

Thanks, Ray.

You think OntarioACHI will have any input in regulating or licensing home inspectors in your province?

Raymond Wand

They may have but there is the troubling question about OACHI claiming they represent 700 inspectors or the majority of inspectors in Ontario. All indications are this number is fraudulent and they refuse to prove they have that number of members or represent that number of inspectors.

No! Thank you Claude! :)

I concur.
Although I am a member, 1: I think the use of volunteers requires distinction.
2: I am troubled by the lack of transparency. This flies in the face of consumer protection.
Does not look good to hide anything.
