Mounting Location of Disconnect Box for AC Condensers

I have always been under the impression that it is improper to mount the exterior disconnect box for an AC or heat pump condenser on the condenser cabinet. Instead, it should be mounted on a wall surface or maybe a post next to the condenser.

Is this correct or is mounting the disconnect box on the condenser cabinet acceptable?
