Inches between gas stove and Microwave oven.

Kathy D new member to IN.

I need to know how many inches between a gas stove and the Microwave oven should be. They have installed mine 16 1/2 inches. I can't even start to boil water because my Microwave gets so hot you can't touch the handle or the bottom of the microwave. This is from all the burners.

Would you be able to direct me to codes or anything to get this fixed sooner than later. I live in Oklahoma.

Tomorrow I will take pictures with the tape on it so you will be able to see what I mean. If it was only an electric stove that would be no problem.
