Does anyone see anything missing on this new metal install. My concern is the caulking being used where the metal butts up against the aluminum chimney flashing, is this a common application ? They have installed the metal over the old shingles.

I don't see any new counter flashing lapped over the roof, at the chimney, it looks like they installed the metal up to (and along side of) the old flashing.

The presence of caulk isn't necessarily a defect, but the absence of required flashing is a concern.

Did they slide the metal roofing under the counter flashing? Or did they just butt it up to the edge?

Over top, butt up against flashing

Sam,
There should be flashing down the chimney and out over the stranding rib to the right.
There also should be the same for the area above the chimney to the ridge cap.

Bottom line is that as it is presently flashed it will leak around the chimney at some time.
