Can anyone provide documentation on year defective Chinese Drywall first imported/used in US? I inspected a home built in 2001 with at least some of the drywall made in China. Wires in interior electrical panel were black, copper pipe under bath and kitchen fixtures black, smoke detectors did not work, A/C not cooling properly... Owner consulted with a lab that will analyze samples but owner was told defective CD was first brought to the US in 2005.

I've searched many posts on this site and general internet searches and found people stating CD was used as early as 2000, but nothing to back that up.

The information regarding "when" is conflicting, at best, here is a link to Florida information:

This one corresponds with the dates in the Florida link:

I found another CPSC one:

Thank you, Jerry. The FL Legal site does indicate 2001 as a date of potential for CD.

Since you have a photo showing manufactured data, the issue isn't really if it is or isn't CD.

Correct, but ... the issue is "Is it the contaminated Chinese drywall?" Or is it Chinese drywall which is not contaminated?

Not all Chinese drywall was contaminated. Most of the contaminated Chinese drywall came in during the 2004-2007 period, starting about the time rebuilding after Hurricane Charley began, combined with the building boom at that same time ... before the housing market crashed.

I'm familiar with the timeline. Just because the dates are widely accepted as fact, doesn't mean some small quantities of materials didn't trickle in on a freighter a few years before the "storm".

Which is why it likely isn't just a "Chinese Drywall" issue, but a "contaminated drywall" issue, as the Country of origin is not as relevant as the off-gassing and contamination. Other countries sent some weird and wonky drywall during that brief construction boom.

Since the symptoms of the contamination have already presented themselves in this property, coupled with the visible stamp, testing is the only logical next step anyway.

YMMV.
