Bonding of the copper supply piping

Situation: Home is rural and on well; PVC supply piping from well to home; house supply piping is copper. Does the copper supply piping need to be bonded to the electrical system? Thanks, Mark

The reason is that a metallic piping system could become electrically energized. If/when that happens, a metallic piping system which is properly bonded to the ground reduces the potential for electrical shock (may not "eliminate" that potential, but reduces the potential of serious electrical shock.

When current (including fault current) flows through a conductor (the metallic piping system becomes the conductor), the resistance of the conductor creates a voltage drop across the resistor, and that voltage drop can, depending on the voltage, cause an electrical shock (but far less than if one were to touch a pipe with a full 120 volts on it).
