Mold in attic?

This photo of the attic is giving me pause because the black on the beams looks to my untrained eye like mold (from condensation? lack of ventilation?).
Does this look like mold to others or are there other possible explanations?

If I view the house and decide to move forward I would certainly have it inspected.
But would be good to avoid a multi-hour drive if the consensus here is mold.
