This wire is connected to the AC unit and runs along the low pressure line (which obiously need to be reinsulated) but is not connected to anything else. Anyone know why?
Also, the refrigerant lines run along the ground for about 8 feet before entering the house.

Most likely the cable from the thermostat to the compressor relay.

If it is connected, like Rick said, the thermostat wire.

If it is not connected, it 'was' the thermostat wire and has been replaced with a new wire for whatever reasons.

I forgot to ask ... what is that rubber cord looking wire for or to?

Thanks guys. Jerry, see the attached. For your information, this is a foreclosure and just about everything is missing. Appliances, light fixtures, receptacle and switch covers, etc.

Jim,

You are referring to the wire on the right side of the gas meter, not the one on the left side, right?

The one on the right side is another view of the thermostat wire in your previous photo. The one on the left side is a tracer wire for the gas piping underground, it does not get connected to anything.
