I am training to become a home inspection and need some info on shear wall inspections. Any broad inspection techniques you want to offer.

Pick up some Simpson Catalogs on shear wall bracing. Also, I’d Google foundation shear wall bracing as there’s loads of info on the internet such as; Earthquake Retrofitting, Foundation Bolting and Cripple Wall Bracing | Earthquake Safety (http://www.earthquakesafety.com/wyretro_retrofit.htm).

Pretty good website. Good basic information. I particularly liked the rusty bolt segment.

Mathew:

Shear wall or braced line wall construction is often specifically engineered for a project. When it is, refer to the construction documents for the engineer's recommendations. Otherwise refer to IRC R602.10.
