Since we are talking planes, if you ever have the opportunity to go to St. Martin you'll want to go to this beach and watch the planes coming in. I sat on this beach for nearly 2 days just watching the jets coming in. It is an awsome sight.

This video is shot by someone else but it gives you an idea.

I did one just like that on Sunday, but my wing didn't hit the runway (only because a C150 has a high wing). The instructor took the controls after the second bounce and brought us down safely.

Still trying to get signed off on cross-wind landings so I can solo - but I did get spins signed off.

Had a similar experience one day. Winds were 3 gusting to 5 from 270, CAVU, perfect. Departing on 36 ( with the interstate 50 yds from the end of the runway ) got 100' off the runway when a strong gust caused the left wing to drop 60 degrees. Don't know who was more shocked, me or the people on the interstate. That was 20 years ago ( 5 hrs after getting my license ), a lot of holes poked in the clouds since then, but something you don't forget.

David,

Congratulations on the flying lessons.

When that happened to me in a Cessna 152, that was when I switched to a 172.

Just enough more weight in the plane to handle those wind gusts during landing and take of (but especially during landing with power off and about ready to touch down).

I think you will like the 172 much better.

Have to agree with Jerry on the 172 since it is heavier and is a good sight seeing plane. But if you want a smoother ride you should try a Piper Archer
or Arrow. With the higher wing loading they are less suseptible to minor turbulance. Plus, you can achieve a steep rate of decent if you need / want to. Only drawback is you lose a little visibility downward to the side.
