I use Protimeter, and carry my old original moisture meter as back up which is a Lignomat which I purchased in 1992!

Depends on what you will be using it for. For general use I agree with a number of the others that the Tramex Mositure Encounter is a good choice. I also like my Delmorst J-4, J-2000 and Tramex Professional Moisture Meter for different applications. Then there's the Tramex Wet Wall Detector for EIFS.

I own both a Tramex and and a Protimeter, use both almost every inspection. The pin extension cable on the PM is *really* handy for getting out to rafter tails, into tight areas around rim joists and the like. BTW you can (per verbal from GE tech support) make an extension cable for the PM and make a calibration chart by comparison with the direct pin readings.
