John, I contacted James River Directly about their E&O program. See response below. It's possible the person responding is unaware of their products, but I'd check into it.

Kevin Healy

Mr. Healy,

James River Insurance Company does not write Home Inspectors E&O. We do have a Professional Liability Division, however Home Inspectors is an excluded class.

I’m sorry we are unable to help you with your risk.

Thank you and have a good day.

Kevin -

I contacted them and got the same response. They had no clue about the program. But there is a program and there's a broker handling it out of MO I think.

I don't see how this program will sustain those rates at the premiums they are collecting initially. Time will tell.

Proceed with CAUTION! Home inspectors have been burned before with home inspector insurance scams. Michael Nadow was the last one that bilked hundreds of thousands of dollars out of home inspectors a few years back.

Check it all out, contact the the insurance company and not the agent to check and verify that it is legit.

According to James River, this program is not yet available.

I got a copy of the application for that program. Quite detailed in terms of the information they require.

According to James River, this program is not yet available.I talked to Wally Glaser this afternoon. Rest assured, he has bound numerous people just this past week that met the qualifications. He is the only agent authorized to offer this policy in the US and he will work with the James River underwriter to ensure they are providing the correct information if someone calls. Again, James River does not offer this policy directly, you must go thru Wally Glaser to get it.

My only question is who is responsible for paying the claims??? Anyone have that information?

That might be all in good, but if the insurer does not even know about the program it does raise a few questions.

Regardless if Wally is the only person in the country that is authorized to write this coverage you would think that James River would know if they even had agents writing coverage.

Has anyone done any further investigation into this company or purchased a policy? My renewal is due and I would like to see if any of you have checked into this more.

I placed my coverage through Mr. Glaser and had no issues.

They do require some extensive paper work to get the policy going but I'd expect any company to do so.

They sent the necessary paper work to TREC for me, and about a week latter I received a insurance policy from the James River company.

So far nothing but great service has been given to me.
