Water Tubing in 10 Year Old House

I've been unable to get a definitive answer on whether this is OK or not. Anyone seen this arrangement before? The end fittings appeared to be factory installed.

Not any approved water piping I am aware of.

Did it have any printing or labeling on it? If not, for sure it is not allowed.

Probably some homeowners high pressure hose they had from something else, *POSSIBLY NOT EVEN APPROVED FOR POTABLE WATER* use. Hoses which are not approved for use with potable water can (most do) leech chemicals into the water from the plastic hose, and that's not good for you (or your client :) ).

Kind of like drinking out of a non-potable water garden hose, except that drinking out of a garden hose is short term limited duration, not something you are doing for all of your potable water uses all of the time.

Also, if that water line is bonded to the electrical ground system, or worse yet, being used as part of the electrical ground system, that would need to have a jumper installed around it, as does that water meter down there at the bottom of your photo (can't quite tell if there is a jumper down there at the meter or not).

Kind of looks like the type of hose that is used for air pressure and hydraulic applications.

Maybe it's their version of a combined thermal expansion device and pressure relief valve!!! The hose expands and contracts and then, one day, it "relieves" the pressure all over the garage when little Johnny decides it a good place to rest his ice skates. :eek:

Even if it was somehow an approved material, you have to wonder why they did it that way. Copper is not THAT expensive. It looks like they had to solder the male fittings onto the existing piping so they must have had that ability. So...why not a couple of copper elbows and, what, maybe 2' of copper pipe at the most.

Thanks guys. For all the reasons you mentioned, I'm going to recommend that the hose be replaced with the standard arrangement of copper tubing.
