I am PE and would like to start home inspections in NYC. Does any one know if I am "required" by the city or state to carry any liability insurance to conduct home inspections. Do I need any type of registration with Department of Consumer Affairs or any other regulatory body or simply advertise in the paper and start making reports.

Please inform.

Thanks

Google the Home Inspector Licensing Bureau. Yes, you need general liability but I am not sure of the exact amount. They are in Albany. P.S. there are already too many inspectors in NY.

Shahid,

To get state requirements, start here: Welcome to the Division of Licensing (http://www.dos.state.ny.us/lcns/homemain.htm) . Then ring city hall in the Big Apple to see if there's anything special required by NYC.
