Is this an old bypass for a water softener system? The house was built in 1970.

Well, it's a bypass valve for something. Could be a softener, or filter. What's on the end of those black supply lines?

Matt, I agree that was a bypass for something; but the bigger concern would be those polybutane pipes (gray) were the main water distrbution throgh out this house.:eek:
