I'd never seen one even close to this recent. I think around 1980 was my previous record. What's the most recent any of you have come across?

This brand was manufactured up until late 1980's Then recalled The gone out of business. Whenever you see this brand make a note because some insurance companies surcharge for fire insurance based on the fact they have been recalled.:)

Hi Richard,

They were never recalled.

Richard,

If only ...

If only they had been "recalled".

However, there was no recall on the FPE panels. The breakers, and maybe the panels (not sure about the panels) 'lost their listing', then regained their listing, however, by that time they basically lost the market they had left.

At least that's my understanding of it.

This photo was from one of last weeks inspections. Rework of the electrical system in 1990 according to the homeowner who was quite proud of his work. And no, the two comments on the photo weren't the only ones on this panel. In fact the comments on the electrical system were quite extensive.

I'd like to see some facts.

When was FPE recalled, and by whom?

When did FPE lose it's listing, and from whom?

What insurance company will not insure a property with FPE panels?

Documentation, please.

Despite the internet hype, FPE was never, in any way, removed from the market ... for any reason other than the manufacturer's choice.
Not only did UL never have any issues with FPE .... old samples tested as part of an 'aging research' study continued to meet UL requirements. Ditto for the Zinsco samples submitted.
FPE continues to be made, listed, and sold just north of the border, under the "Federal Pioneer" brand. Ironically, both Federal Pioneer and Square D are divisions of Schneider Electric.

I can't remember which, but one of the main homeowner's insurance companies lists FPE and Zinsco by name in their criteria to qualify for their best rating.

That is a pretty new thing but I think it's a sign of things to come.

I did a condo in a large complex with FPE panel and when I brought it to the clients attention the Realtor says the whole complex is changing out the FPE panels due to Insurance Company. That was 3-5 years ago.
