Does anyone have a good technical paragraph for when attachments have been made to a masonry chimney? In this home the porch structure and service cable where attached and approved by the local building official and utility company.

How about:

Hey, stupido, you are not allowed to attach framing to a chimney, in fact, you are required to keep the framing 2" away from the masonry chimney - you got some 'splainin' to do, Bozo.

By the way, Bubba, you trying to pull that chimney down with the overhead service? Jeez, might as well try and remove one brick at a time, 'cause that's what you're tryin' to do.

:D

Sorry, Jerry, but he said "technical" paragraph, and "stupido" just doesn't make it. I believe "Knucklehead" is the preferred technical term.

Not to mention how the service conduit enters the gable end shingles.

The porch does not appear to be attached to the chimney. I don't see any lag bolts. Were they present?

(slap to forehead)

What was I thinking? ;)

Richard,

All in good fun, and there is technical information in there for you to use.
