Questions about ashi
Can a non-inspector join ashi as a candidate?

If so, is it ethical for a termite inspector to build a home inspector web site that claims ashi membership, and send the inspections to another state licensed, non-ashi inspector?

They can join as a "Professional Affiliate", this is a new membership classification that was created this year. It has not been marketed yet, but a few are around. They must designate that they are a "Professional Affiliate".

If this is not the case all you have to do is send the information to anthonys@ashi.org .

Re: Questions about ashi
WHAT? A termite inspector build a H.I. website & claims ASHI membership. I can't answer the ethical part (actually I could but from a personal point of view) but I sure would question the intent and how it would be perceived by the public.

How about the termite inspector build a termite inspector website and have a link to the ASHI website? It just rubs me wrong to bring ASHI into play then refer people to a non-ASHI member.

Re: Questions about ashi
yes, a non licensed, non home inspector has an ashi candidate (associate) membership in a state that requires licensing by anyone who offers home inspections.

Bruce,
The ASHI COE clearly says,
1. Inspectors shall avoid conflicts of interest or activities that compromise, or appear to compromise, professional independence, objectivity, or inspection integrity.

and

3. Inspectors shall avoid activities that may harm the public, discredit themselves, or reduce public confidence in the profession.

A. Advertising, marketing, and promotion of inspectors' services or qualifications shall not be fraudulent, false, deceptive, or misleading.

This guy needs to be taken down asap!

Martin
