What do you make of this? See photo
What do you make of this attic structure? 7 year old home in Dallas. I stared at it for 10 minutes trying to figure out what it is, or the purpose was. New type construction with this in the attic. My guess is a left over assembly used during construction to allow for some unknown repair, and then left in place. Your thoughts?

Looks like it was made for access and a drying rack for a cash crop. Seems to be some missing super structure support.

We hope they were better at framing then they were at building scaffold.

That's the point John Kogel, some of the framing appears to be missing.

It is temporary material (scaffold) used to place the decking on the roof which was never removed.

Agreed, looks like temporary ladders and platform... should have been taken down by the contractor.

A few possibilities: 1. play room for exotic pet (chimpanzee?).
2. in case of severe flooding, take refuge in attic. If water continues to rise, climb the 'ladders' to keep above the rising water level. I hope there are only 2 residents occupying the home, otherwise, recommend additional 'ladder' for each additional occupant. And don't forget to have a reciprocating saw handy with a fully charged battery.

Did you call out the undersized column for the ridge beam. It looks likes it's bowing.

Re: What do you make of this? See photo
Looks like the builder had no concept of safety. These look like home made ladders that the framers made during construction and decided that the home owner might need them in the future. They were proud of them. I'm sure they have a UL stamp on them.
I did see something like these in an attic once though. Home owner build them so he could get to his grow light and plants.

In all seriousness, suspect has to do with the cabling project, the stamped plans for the remedial work cabling support and check them against permits; or get an SE evaluation regards the altered support bracing and framing of the superstructure. Looks like someone wanted to open the space, and or compensate for heavier roof materials; look beyond the "mystery" scaffold/rack/ladder "assembly".
