Looking for photos
Hello All,
As we ease into fall, I hope all are well.
In about a week I am giving a small presentation (about 30-45 minutes) to a group of architects. The topic is insulation, ventilation and in general, residential energy issues.
If anyone has any pictures of issues on this topic (including thermal imaging) that you wouldn't mind me using for this presentation please post them here or e-mail them to inspectorfriedman@gmail.com
Funny and serious pictures would be great. If something needs explanation the back story would be helpful Of course, you'd been given credit for the photos.
Thanks for your help.
Corey

Re: Looking for photos
General building (attic, crawl space, similar) ventilation only, or mechanical ventilation of baths, etc. also.

Re: Looking for photos
Here are some moldy attic photos. IMO this is all due to blocked or otherwise inadequate soffit venting. It's actually very common up here in the moldy/soggy Pacific Northwest. The mold is usually heaviest on the north side of the roof.

Re: Looking for photos
Here is an interesting one I ran across this week in a century old home with a Gambrel roof the had 3 roof vents in the south facing slope, no soffit vents with a series of 4" tubes with screen wrapped on the ends presumably going down to the area of the vents. Cellulose insulation was blown or poured down around them in the sloped ceiling roof space.
Not sure how it works but structure is still standing!

Re: Looking for photos
Here's a diagram showing how baffles help in both ventilation and prevention of wind washing of insulation.
I regularly see homes that need baffles or have ones not installed right.
