Metal Collar Ties and Straps
MetalCollarTies.jpgMetalstrap.jpg
I inspected a house built in 1955. The attic access was obstructed so I could not get into it but I was able to stick my arm up and snap pictures. First time I have seem metal collar ties. But the second picture shows metal straps bolted to both the rafter and a truss? support. Then the strap descends into the insulation but I would assume it is tied to the rafter ties (joists). Has anyone seen this before and do you believe it is original or was added to solve some issue with the roof? Thanks.

Re: Metal Collar Ties and Straps
They look original. I have not seen this type of strap use before. Don't think its a issue worth reporting in my opinion.

Re: Metal Collar Ties and Straps
Tom,
Thank you - being in Columbus, OH , I doubt you have to worry much about hurricanes or earthquakes ... The straps hold things down, not sure you find that much.
The metal collar ties will hold the rafters together at the ridge.
While I haven't seen that before, I recall seeing similar posted here years ago.
I doubt they are a concern.
