    Default reversed insulation?

This is the attic side view of the wall in the adjacent great room. The block is the chimney that extends up the middle of this room. The insulation paper should be against the heated/ air conditioned portion of the home correct?

Yes, but ... you know it is a lot easier to install with the paper where they can staple it to the studs from within the attic, don't you?

Also, anytime you can see the paper ... that is a problem as each batt has a label printed on it which states that the facing is not allowed to be left exposed due to risk of fire, that the facing must be in contact with gypsum board or other approved building material (to keep the spread of fire down).
