Fire wall or no fire wall.
Do you guys think there is supposed to be a firewall here or just improperly installed insualtion

Bill,

No fire wall, at most a draftstop wall (but that's not it either).

What's on the other side of that plywood?

Looks like those trusses (or at least one truss) were framed out like that to accommodate 'something', like maybe a room for air handlers?

One thing for sure, though, that paper facing is not allowed to be left exposed like that.

This is an attached garage. My interest is the exposed backing of the insulation. Should not there be a complete firewall here??

No fire wall, nor even a draftstop wall, is required there.

The facing on the insulation should (the warning says to do it) in contact with gypsum board or other approved building material.

If that is an attached garage, that indicates 'living space' on the other side of that wall, and the paper facing 'should have been' installed facing that direction, in which case the paper facing 'would have been' in contact with the drywall - as is required.

Is there insulation behind that plywood? An infrared camera would have told you that in one quick glance.
