    The trim should be on top of the window.

    No cap is needed the "J" channel keep the water from getting in. Look at the file that Jerry attached it should have it all in the guidelines. If the Vinyl Siding Institute's site is up, take a look at it. It has been down for a couple of days, I needed to look something up on Tuesday and it was down then.
