what are the 2 blocks on ceiling?
I found these 2 blocks on ceiling when I inspected a 1981 built house. I do not know what that is. Anybody can help? Thanks

What did you see in the attic over that area?
I would not put forth a guess as to what it might be without knowing that first, and if there is nothing above those, then maybe not even then.
Having said that ... those could be from an owner who had some art sculpture hanging from them, or ... who knows?

They are on the basement floor living room. You are right, Jerry. Hard to say it.

Re: what are the 2 blocks on ceiling?
this is where you ask the realitor to ask the owner what they are, as opening them up is not acceptable. could they have been part of a old set of stairs or structural bracing that they didn't know how to deal with?

Looks like a bulkhead for the heat/air duct to cross over the floor joist. Is that a heat vent in between them?

Re: what are the 2 blocks on ceiling?
Just a comment - I would describe them as 'boxes' as in hollow containers or covers, rather than 'blocks', which imply something solid like a block of wood.
Covers over heat ducts are the best guess. They could be made less ugly by building false beams around them.
