    Default Wall discoloration

Anyone have a guess as to cause of this discoloration. HO sent me pix showing discoloration to walls and ceiling in a under-stair storage closet in basement. He also states the same discoloration is in the upper level master bedroom closet. It's a yellow-ish discoloration around the doors in both closets.

Per the HO- it doesn't appear to be water staining and there isn't any "substance" transfer to his hand if wall is wiped. There are no HVAC registers or returns in the area either. (the hole in the wall was for fishing cable) I was in the home a while back, but I don't recall any direct source of water above the basement closet. The fact that it's also happening in an upper level bedroom closet, also, is confusing to me. I don't recall if the 2 closets are in the same vertical plane to one another. There is a gas fireplace and a hot tub in the basement family room adjacent to this closet, but about both are 15- 20 feet or so from the closet. The discoloration is on the inside of the closet.
No where near the MBR closet upstairs. It's about 3500 sq ft house, under 10 yrs old.

Pictures aren't very good but I would guess smoke or heat discoloration.

Hey, somebody put his fist thru the wall. Did Big Mike Holmes inspect that house?

I thought about smoke, but it would seem that there would be signs in other areas of the house.
As for heat- I'm not sure what the source of heat would be....

What about a sprayed on finish for the door casing? Could it be overspray? There seems to be a clear margin along the edge closest to the trim. ???

looks like the trim is new and posible the finish was sprayed on and appears to be overspray.
