Door Hinge Thingy
doorthingy.jpg
This is a new one on me. This is a hinged thingy on the inside of the main egress door. It is on the side opposite the hinges. It is screwed into the door jamb and the other part moves freely on the hinge with no apparent function. Anybody know what this is? Help is appreciated.

Re: Door Hinge Thingy
It is a door lock! You close the door and flip the piece over on the door and it keeps it from opening.... Inexpensive and they work great.

Re: Door Hinge Thingy
As Scott said "They work great".
I do have some concern that someone may become trapped inside, not knowing how to unlock the door. You know, EERO, no special knowledge.

Re: Door Hinge Thingy
As stated this is a door security latch. These things have been around in this form and other variants ever since I was growing up! All you need to do is flip it and try the door to figure it out if not sure. It does not take an Engineering Degree to figure it out.
By the way, as also stated these are an egress hazard if not properly placed and children can not, or do not know how to, operate it. Of course most children are smarter than adults with these type things. Maybe they should have an engineering degree for children to obtain? They can teach adults a lot!
