    Hmmmm......I need to secure this metal wall stud to something but this pesky boiler flue pipe is in the way.

    nah, you're looking at it wrong. The photo is upside down and in reality that is just a duct support. Don't ask me how they got their drill inside of the duct to put the screw in.
