Shower doors required?
I was asked an interesting question by a Realtor today on whether it's code to have shower doors installed. I could not find anything in the '06 IRC that mentioned installing shower doors, only that hinged doors need to swing outward. Did I miss it elsewhere that says shower doors are required? Thanks

If so it would kill the shower curtain business wouldn't it.

Re: Shower doors required?
Not required, but if you install, there are requirements (safety glazing, etc.)

Re: Shower doors required?
Jimbo,
I've seen so many foreclosures lately that the soap scum on the shower doors would probably cushion the fall onto the door. Just nasty.

Re: Shower doors required?
Doors serving stall & tub showers not required by code, but if installed shall be tempered/safety type glazing, solid core or 15 minute fire-rated doors. Shower curtains must also be rated not to allow inebriated persons to fall out of shower onto tile floor resulting in personal injury. If floor is carpeted there is no requirement for a shower curtain. IRC 1856.3 (2)
