Height of vanity tops
In the last few years I've observed a change in the height of bathroom vanities.
I was surprised today when I inspected a new build where the height of the vanities were 32 inches but could not find any requirements in my 2006 IRC .
I was hoping someone knows the requirements on their height of these any refer me to a reference I can share with my client.

The 'old standard' (no code) was 30" high vanity cabinets, the 'new standard' seems to be 36" high vanity cabinets.

36" high is a bit high for kids, but works out better for adults.

Many hall bathrooms use 30" high for the kids (unless the kids have their own bathrooms) and 36" high in the master bathroom.

Ours is the same way, the original 30" in the hall bathroom and a new 36" high one in the master.

Likewise, some kids can use the 36" high ones too.

Those same adults in your statement "Some adults. Not all." have a problem with 36" high kitchen cabinets too.

The 'standard' height is based on a 'standard' adult - i.e., one which more approximates the 'average', not the 'short people' nor the 'tall people'.

I used to have two brothers working for me when I was a contractor in Gainesville, Florida, one was 6'9" and the other was 6'10" tall - "every *standard* doorway" was a problem for them.

"Standard" anything was not for them.
