the old exploding dishwasher trick
I was reminded of this whilst on another (non-HI) forum. It's been about 3 years since talked about on this forum, so I though I'd post it again for those that aren't aware:
eLCOSH : Dishwasher exploded
Run that hot water first before turning on the dishwasher in a vacant house!

Re: the old exploding dishwasher trickDuring the course of the investigation, a maintenance worker in the housing department pointed out a paragraph in the dishwasher-owner's manual to the NAVOSH specialist. It read, "...under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a hotwater system that has not been used for two weeks or more. If the hot-water system has not been used for such a period, before using the dishwasher, turn on all hot-water faucets and let the water flow."
