Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
I am paying a fortune right now in marketing, it's increasing my business but decreasing my bottom line. I keep telling myself that there has to be a cheaper way to get my site found.
After researching, I have found that one of the best ways to get your site found by the search engines is to have links from other sites to your own. So, to that end, I propose that everyone with a web address start "linking" up.
I haven;t figured out exactly how to get things started, so for now I propose a link exchange system. There are a lot of us on here and we could really help drive traffic to each others site's. Inspectors helping inspectors. We are in geographically different areas so helping the competition isn't much of a concern. Besides, link exchanging is symbiotic, it helps me as much as it helps you, even if we are in the same market. For most of you though thats not the case, I am in Maryland, but I don't mind trading links with MD or VA inspectors.
I'll cease my rambling and submit my email address. If your interested in me putting a link to your site in my site and are willing to reciprocate, please email me at esmith@rightinspector.com.
Feel free to share your thoughts.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
I am working on a linking program for InspectionNews and hope to have it up next month.
Linking is great, having a link from a high ranking site is much better. InspectionNews has been climbing the charts rapidly and I hope that will benefit all members by linking to your site.
Stay tuned!

I'm happy to place a link to Inspection News on my site. Is there a particular formatted link type that you already have for this purpose or does "Inserting A Hyperlink" work for you?

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
That would be great!
I'm not sure if this code will post. Let me try
<a href="http://www.inspectionews.net" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://www.inspectionnews.net/home_inspection/images/inspnewsbannersm2.gif" alt="Home inspection information for professional home inspectors. Find information on mold, insurance, tools, ASHI, NAHI, NACHI, roofing, electrical, plumbing, fireplaces, HVAC, training and more!" width="225" height="46"></a>
Or just a test link to www.InspectionNews.net
Thanks!

Brian, I added the link. It worked fine. It was a tad(way) too big. I cut the size by half. Feel free to go to my site and check it out. It is on the bottom of the Contact page.
By submitting our url's to our profile, are we also liked from your site to our's?

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
I'm going to be doing some testing of the new reciprocal links pages with some of you who have posted here and said that you have a link back to InspectionNews.
This is still Beta testing. Don't be surprised if you receive an e-mail from the system.
If you receive an odd e-mail or one that does not make sense please let me know.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
I'm hoping to have the InspectionNews Reciprocal Links Directory operational by the end of Friday.
There will still be modifications and adjustments made after Friday but I'm hoping I will have it ready for you to submit a link to your web site.
Any member of InspectionNews who would like to take advantage of this directory may do so for free. The only stipulation is that you have a link back to InspectionNews.
The goals of this directory are:
- To get the directory(s) ranked high in search engines so that consumers can more easily find your web site and hopefully increase your business.
- Provide another link TO your web site to help increase the search engine ranking of your own site.
- Provide a path from your site so other inspectors (yes, inspectors look at other inspector's sites) will learn about the benefits of InspectionNews.net

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
You will probably end up with 2 reciprocal links from InspectionNews.
One from the "State Links Page"
One from the "City Links Page"
More ways for customers to find you. More ways for search engine bots to find and rank you.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
Several months ago I posted here wanting to start up a link exchange.
I made an offer then, and it is still open to all.
I have pages made up with Microsoft Front page with listings for all inspectors on IN that had web sites.
I will gladly e-mail you the templates.
You would have to modify it with your Co. name etc.
Check out the format here.
Critical Home Inspection Services, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, inspector list,
Reciprocity would be nice.
If you'd like to be included in the list, E-mail me at victor@home2spec.com
Same if you'd like a copy of the pages.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
Looking for Beta testers of the InspectionNews Reciprocal links pages.
Step one is to add the following code on your site.
<a href="http://www.inspectionnews.net" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://www.inspectionnews.net/home_inspection/images/inspnewsbannersm2.gif" alt="Home inspection information for professional home inspectors. Find information on mold, insurance, tools, ASHI, NAHI, NACHI, roofing, electrical, plumbing, fireplaces, HVAC, training and more!" width="225" height="46"></a>
Then go to:
http://www.inspectionnews.net/home-i...or/addlink.php
You can go directly to Step 2 on this page (if you did step one above).
a) You can use your same username and password that you use for the message board.
b) Select a category (Your state)
c) Enter additional information
Note: "Your url:" is your home page.
"Reciprocal link (the exact URL that links back to InspectionNews):" is to the web page the you placed the reciprocal link on.
Let me know if you have trouble or get an error.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
I'd be interested in hearing comments concerning linking. I mentioned linking to the guy that developed my site. He said while linking was a good way to raise your ranking the search engines on the major sites like Google, Yahoo and the likes have found a way to determine if your site is a linked site and if so your rating doesn't change. Whether its fact of not I don't know. Anyone heard this ?

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
I tried it --- with the html above and the html on the addlink page ...
I keep getting the message that inspectionnews can't find my web page (www.abide-able.com), or can't find the link to INN ....
I clicked the link I had added to my site, and, lo and belhold, I was takien to the NACHI site!!
Your html takes us to inspectionews.net rather than inspectionnews.net!!
I added the extra 'N' and got to INN OK.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
Hi Victor,
When you add the code make sure you switch to the code view of your page (I'm not sure about frontpage 2003 but other versions have a tab in the lower left for "Normal" "HTML" and "Preview" screens) Place a couple letters like "DDDD" on your page where you want the link to be and highlight them with your mouse. Now click on HTML and it should take you right to DDDD. Now replace that with the code .
If you try to add code to the WYSIWYG (normal view) you will get code on the page.
Since you already have a link on my links pages (I added it during testing) the system is probably going to tell you "Sorry, your link is already on the site.
If you are interested in helping me test and playing with your site just let me know and I will delete your link so you can add it again.
Oops! Thanks for catching that. A typo on my part. That is exactly why Nick bought that URL.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
Brian;
My bad on MsFrontPage ...it's 2000 not 2003
anyhow....
That's exactly what I have been doing... I have 3 tabs, normal, HTML, preview.
I always do what you stated.
In normal I highlight where I want to be, switch to HTML and add the code. In this instance though, when I switch back to Normal or even preview, I still get the HTML.
I have had issues with code written for other links, and I think the problem might be in how FrontPage processes the code.
I'm going to try and tweek it to the format that other links have and see what happens.
If it works, I'll let you know and give you the tweek.
Thanks, Victor

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
Hi Victor,
I think I see the problem and I have run into it before.
Sometimes when you copy code from a web site (or word document) it doesn't translate exactly when you copy & Paste into a web editor.
What I do is paste it into a text editor (I use text pad ( TextPad Downloads ) but you can use NotePad that comes with window. This takes all the formatting out that you get when you copy from another program.
Then just copy and paste again from the text editor into your web editor.
This is my standard move when I develop a site for someone and they send me the info in a word document or I copy info from their old site.

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
Years ago when I did my web site I found that WordPad (which also comes with Windows) would also remove all formatting. It would accomplish the same thing as NotePad, but I found WordPad easier to use.
I would copy and paste from WordPerfect or Word to WordPad, then copy from WordPad like Brian said to my HTML editor.
In HTML, < is the 'less than' sign "<" and > is the 'greater than' sign "<".

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
It worked. I copied and pasted into Notepad, then copied that, and pasted it into FrontPage. the IN.N logo shows up and the mouseovers work.
There's only one issue now....
It is not clickable.
I go to preview mode... fully functionable... everything else is clickable....
not so with IN.N
working on it.....

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
The InspectionNews Reciprocal links section is now open.
The purpose(s) of reciprocal links is:
1) Links coming from a related web site to your web site will improve the search engine position of your site.
2) The InspectionNews Inspector Directory will be marketed toward consumers looking for an inspector.
For the one link you provide from your site to http://www.InspectionNews.net, InspectionNews will provide 2 links back to your site. One from a state page and one from a state/city page.
You only need to list your web site once on the state page and I will include the second link on your city page.
I will say that you need to follow the directions carefully when adding your link to the system.
If you run into any trouble while adding your web site just let me know and I will help.
This is a FREE service from InspectionNews! I hope it will help to bring you more business opportunities.
To submit your listing go here:
http://www.inspectionnews.net/home-i...or/addlink.php
The Directory Home Page is located here:

Re: Great Idea-I think-Link Sharing!
Oops Victor,
Missed that one. I think it might be Front Page then. I know it's easier to use but it is known to be buggy in the way it executes code. It seems to add a lot of extra bits for some reason. I use an open source editor called Nvu that works great. Open source=free. Great price. You can set it up to publish to your site same as FrontPage. I use another free one for that called Filezilla.
