    Brian,

I had a good laugh when I saw the second one. You can have receptacle outlets in the floor, but the primary requirement is a heavy duty cover that is designed/approved for that use.

    Brian,

The receptacle should be flush with the floor - no trip hazard. Cover needs to be rated for application - load bearing for foot traffic etc.

At least they had the taste to remove the green in/out carpet at some point in time. Was this inside the house?

Also needs to be in a special box approved for installation in floors.

Just to be sure I'm remembering correctly.... these aren't allowed on counter tops, right?

I'm thinking kitchen, bath or bar?

But, okay for mantles and such?

I dunno...seems like if you leave a bit of magical Astro-Turf or similar under your boxes (as was done here) it should be OK.

The black picture shows a knot in the black electrical cord. I couldn't help but think back of my wife's late grandmother when I saw that.

She called us one night to come over to her house. She sounded panicked, so I jumped in the truck and headed quickly over there. Once I got there she told me that people were in her house.

I went through the whole house just thinking someone was hiding out somewhere. Once I determined that no one was in the house I asked her why she thought there was. Being that she had alzheimer's I assumed she was hearing or seeing things. (Spells some old folks call them)

Anywho, she told me that "little people" were jumping out the front of the television and hiding under the furniture. I thought how frightening this would appear if you really thought this was going on. To make her feel better, I unplugged the television cord and tied a small knot as such in the picture above. I told her that the little people couldn't then come through the cord and get into the television. She was happy as a pig in mud.

She called my mother in the law the next day and told them what a hero I was.

    May she rest in peace.

Rick, you deserve an " atta boy " for that one. Dealing with people suffering from that, and other forms of dementia can be difficult. And you are correct, it must be terrifying for them as it's as real to them as your cup of coffee in front of you is to you. ( Assuming you are having coffee..........if not,and you are seeing a cup of coffee, please seek medical attention immediately).

It is anoying to be looking for information and education regarding subjects that this website is designed for and having to read through all the unrelated crap and stupid one word answers. This website can be a very useful tool if used only for what it was designed for.

How about you start participating MORE, that way you can keep it down to applicable wording only?

In the mean time, ... glad to have a lurker come on board. Now it is time for you to teach us, now just learn from us.

Now chill and learn while enjoying it. All work and no play made Jack a dull boy, or however that old saying goes.

And it would be a very dull site too, making it so few would participate, kinda like you have not been participating, making it so there was nothing of substance here, meaning there would be no reason to come here to read ... nothing as nothing would be written.

I agree. We have to keep it light from time to time, I sure would rather read a bit of humor instead of the occasional pissing contests I see.

I have learned a lot from this site, even tho I haven't posted either.

Since there are so many different opinions on subjects, especially dealing with different states, local ordinances, codes, etc, one has to really be on the ball to catch everything.

I do like the posts where one has uncovered an unusual problem, like the warped siding. I did have one like that, and it WAS a school bus parked adjacent to the house. Reflections off the side windows caused a pattern of diagonal warpage across the siding in a downward angle. As the sun rose, the reflections moved down the wall and became more vivid as the sun intensified.

This was in a small town, and the local school board helped pay for the replacement of the siding!

    You gotta love small towns...
