Mystery light above electrical panel
I observed this light above the electrical panel during an inspection yesterday. I have no idea what it's purpose is. Has anyone ever seen a light like this before, and if so, do you know why it is there?

Re: Mystery light above electrical panel
From your photo, I don't see that is wired into the panel.
Is that a bedroom inside that wall?
Can it be seen from the street or a neighbor's house?
Could that be an 'emergency' light which is switched on from inside to indicate that an elderly or other person is calling for help?

There is a security system, and one bedroom has a panic button. You may hace cracked it, Jerry.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Re: Mystery light above electrical panel
Should not have cracked from this distance, thus it "failed under testing".

I've seen them on septic systems along with alarms when the pump fails or overflow conditions exist.

Re: Mystery light above electrical panel
If it is made from cast iron, then it could be an old explosion-proof lighting fixture that was reused at home. The many sealing screw holes, heavy lens protection, and large hex sealing nut (where the sealant is injected), makes it look like it was once an explosion-proof lighting fixture that has been remounted on a weatherproof box.
