    Default Grounding electrode

Can someone tell me when adding a grounding electrode (in adition to water main ground) was added? I realize just because it was added by NEC, it does not indicate when it was adopted by the local AHJ.

    At least that long.

First required in the 1978 NEC.

Don't forget the wording, when the metalic water pipe is the only electrode.

Notice that my post was not in ( ' ") as to indicate direct quotes or direct wording per code (NEC).
To clarify my inference this time,, if there are other electrodes present and utilized there is no need to add any more electrodes, obviously.

The reason for my input of the obvious J.P., is due to my experience of seeing H owners as well as a few contractors installing made electrodes in presence of metallic water pipes even tho there are other electrode(s) already utilized.

Now for some code quotes.. "shall be supplemented by an additional electrode of a type specified in 250.52(A)(2) through (A)(8)" end of quote.
If one of those other electrodes are being utilized as required, obviously their is no need per the NEC to drive made electrodes.

So I was wondering why you were asking about what we were already talking about.

Your reply talked about "if there are other electrodes present", thus why I was asking for clarification.
