    Just curious. Is it because the older boxes are made of a material that does not rust, or is there some other reason?

    The older boxes rust out just like the newer boxes do (unless, of course, they are non-metallic, and then they can be sealed anyway).

    The answer is 'yes', not only 'yes' but '*YES*'.
