White ceramic type substance on breakers, what could it be?
Found this on 2006 Siemens panel, never seen it before. It looks like a course ceramic type material and kind of disintegrates (not bad) when rubbed with finger. It is uniformly on all breakers like it was possibly manufactured this way but not sure. Any thoughts? Thanks

That's a good thought but no.

Re: White ceramic type substance on breakers, what could it be?
This has been addressed in other threads, but the quick answer is that there is no problem. During the production of the breakers, a small hole is plugged with a dry caulk type material. Over time this material breaks down some into that white powder. It isn't a defect or problem.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Cement over the adjustment screw. Just happens to be white on these breakers. Ge uses a black substance Square D just tapes over them. All different but ok methods.

As I remember this came up before and it is as Lon said. Manufacturer applied.
