    Default ID this breaker config

    Hi all

i am a homeowner. and my house maybe built in the 80s or 70s.
But one thing that kind of worries me is the breaker panel. Cause when we bought the house, we didn't really have an inspection Or didn't know about it. we bought it around 1997. And we were new to Canada so that's why we didn't know the inspections that had to be done.

Anyways for the past months i been looking on forums about electrical inspections that have to be done before selling the house. And i am guessing that if we had one it would be EPIC FAIL. Since the design of electrical system is done so stupidly.

The service for the House is a 100amp service, but can be changed to 200amps ? the house is Gas Heat/ Water , the stove and dryer are the only things using the most. And maybe the electric baseboard heater in the master bedroom.

    For a example,
The outdoor outlet is not GFCI, and it hooked up together with the upstair bathroom which was not oringally GFCI'ed, ( i bought a GFCI outlet for it, to make it safer,) and and is also hooked up to the guests bathroom's outlet as well. and also it's on the same circuit as the alarm system. So this design is stupid, cause if i have two people upstairs hair drying, the breaker trips. or if someone is using a powerful tool outside it would also trip.

And another thing that is stupid is that three bedrooms share the same breaker as well. Which i think is illegal now ? by code ? cause i could have someone plug in a oil filled heater in one room and also in the other room and have computers plugged in it would trip.

I just would like to know if i should get a electrican to check out the system ?

    BTw heres my breaker panel.

You pose many questions here. It's not easy to give correct and applicable answers to them without actually seeing everything in person. I say, if you don't feel comfortable with the whole thing, get a professional to inspect it.

Yes. If for no other reason than your worries about it.

You have many good inspectors in your area, you might want to contact one to do an inspection on your home. Outside of that you should hire an electrician just for your peace of mind. It will be well worth the investment with either one, but a home inspector would cover more items than just the electrical. Look for a CAPHI home inspector.

Yes, get a electrician to look the system over, it's what's under the panel cover that would concern me. At least this way you can relax at night.

    Kevin,

Those do not look even remotely like Zinsco breakers. First, Zinsco breakers extend all the way across the panel, second, they have purty colored handles (blue/green/pink/etc. ).
