Crazy Electrician
Any idea why this would be soldered together? The upper conductor comes from the interior panel (shown on another post) and the lower to the grounding rod. Both are lugged to the bus. As far as I could see, there were no breaks in either conductor.

Electrician was showing an apprentice how they used to have to solder wires together? (Of course, though, nothing like teaching them wrong if that was what it was for.)

My real answer is: Nope, no idea whatsoever.

Fairly neat soldier job. I've seen plumbers do a lot worse on copper under the house!
No idea why one would do this. Nothing to be gained by it. Trying to be "for sure, for sure?

Re: Crazy Electrician
Haven't seen soldering in a while, usually it was on service calls to old houses wired in 40's & 50's.

Michael,

The Tan ( Masking Tape? ) is a Nice touch.

Opened the access door on a ZENCO today and could feel the heat radiating (room temp.
mid 70,s). Hit it with the Infrared thermometer bottom to top readings started upper 80's and the farther up the panel the higher the temperature (topped out at 126 f. )
