GWB, the chicken-hawk who avoided Vietnam, has recently said he's envious of soldiers in Afghanistan and that their service there is "romantic".
There is nothing romantic about war. But there is something in human nature that keeps wars going. One of the most important books I've read is War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning by Chris Hedges. I think all presidents, especially if they have not been in a war, should be required to read this book.

Perhaps because the 3,988 were pointless and avoidable. Maybe some of the 210,000 could have been avoided through different laws or better enforement of those laws, who knows? Many were inadvertent. None of the 210,000 were a direct result of the lying bastard in the White House.

Because the same number of people have been dying in vehicle accidents for over a decade (as confirmed in your linked article). Nothing seems to change that much.

THEN we get a cowboy president who wants to 'teach a lesson to the man who threatened my daddy' and we end up in a war, now 5 years old, in which more than one (1) ... yes, that's "more than one (1) ... died needlessly.

We could all drive cars built like tanks, but, then, none of us would be able to afford to drive, or like armies with tanks, the tanks would take each other out anyway.

*THAT WAR* is completely different.

Why not put up the numbers who die each year from cancer? Old age? Gun shots? Lightning strikes?

I may not be that happy about the war, and yes I wish we could get out and end the whole mess.
That said I support our president, I support our troops, and I glad the government is no longer in power in Iraq. Saddam Hussein was not even human and needed to be dethroned. Who else was going to do what America did?? and end mans inhumanity to man?

The only reason the numbers of the soldiers sent to Iraq by "allies" are so small is that they only sent a small number of soldiers. Why? Because the citizens of the European nations from which they hailed had the sense to see this was a pointless war and they protested, mightily.

Funny how the wars the USA gets involved in are not about conquest of land and people but the promotion of freedom in the world.

In a sense the enemy is us in that there are some who insist that if we leave them alone they will leave us alone.
History provides little support for their view.

If we don't defend freedom, who will?

To tout the benefits of freedom you must first understand what bondage is. It's a lot of things, but in this country it is:

(1) Citizens working more hours than in any in any other Western nation.
(2) Citizens taking less vacation than in any other Western nation.
(3) Citizens having less access to health care than in any other Western nation.
(4) Citizens having less access to education than in any other Western nation.
(5) Citizens having a shorter lifespan than in any other Western nation.
(6) CEO salaries higher than in any other Western nation.
(7) Employee salaries lower than in any other Western nation.
(8) Highest rate of homelessness of any Western nation.
(9) Veterans with access to less assistance than in any Western nation.
(10) Citizens most overtly religious than in any other Western nation.

You, my friend, are not free. You are currently in bondage. Wave all of the flags and eat all of your mom's apple pie that you like, you are so deep in denial that no pole will reach you.

Waking up is hard to do, but not impossible. Read. Think. Observe. Make changes.
