    Default Painted aluminum siding

Any implications beyond the cosmetic and maintenance?

If you meant to ask if you can paint aluminum siding, the answer is yes, as long as you use a paint that is recommended for it and follow the instructions.

If you meant to ask if aluminum siding is a poor choice of exterior cladding, then the answer is most assuredly.

    Sorry my question wasn't clear.

I was wondering if there any functional implications of painting aluminum siding of which I might not be aware.

For example, I was wondering if there is any possibility that any type of paint can damage the factory applied finish below it, causing delamination from the underlying metal.

It seems unlikely to me that would be functional implications, but almost never see paint aluminum siding , and I dislike "assuming" in such cases.

The only problem I can foresee is if the siding were to be painted a dark color. It may absorb more heat and possibly cause warping, like it does in vinyl siding.

Any paint to my knowledge will eventually be pushed off, due to oxidation of the aluminum. The reason I state that although an unproven theory on my part is because I see a lot of older aluminum siding where oxidation has caused the paint to wear off. Particularly noticeable on brick siding of older homes.

I would suspect that the underlying factory applied finish was already bad ... which led to the need to paint it???
